Xanax Addiction

In fact, I am still on Xanax gg249 and trying to quit it myself. I’ve lost friends, lost the patience of family members, almost lost my family and am flat broke.

Family members offered to pay for and send me to a 3 month drug addiction center, but after careful research, I found out the center was affiliated with the Church of Scientology, a church that is claimed to be a cult by many websites; I need a cure, not another problem!

My family and friends have given me money and I have lost it all – in doing so, I have also lost their faith in my ability to make rational decisions. I think I am thinking normal, but everyone says different, from being depressive to just being plain stubborn.

Xanax made it easy to go broke!

I was in business for myself and doing well, but the stress was incredible. One of my employees turned me onto Xanax and said it would help take the edge off. Not only did it take the edge off, I let it take my life!

I found a doctor that prescribes me Xanax without the need for a visit and this has made it extremely difficult for me to quit. I also drink alcohol with my Xanax which increases the effects.

Sounds scary doesn’t it? I have been doing my research and I’m finding countless people in the same situation as me!

I’m trying to quit by reducing my dosage and I am down to a half milligram per day. It is by far the hardest thing I have ever done and to make matters worse, sites claim that you could actually have sever brain damage if you do this cold turkey (provided you have been on it long term).

This is my story, from the beginning up to now. I am still a Xanax addict and it is my most profound hope that this blog will help me and others that are going through the same thing. My name is Doug and more is to come.

Quick and Easy Crock Pot Recipes

Like many busy homemakers, I like one dish meals. Casseroles are easy to make and there is only one dish to wash. My husband, who is a very good cook, and I have some favorites, but not wanting to heat up the kitchen in the summertime we decided to try something different. We thought perhaps our recipes would work in the crockpot so we tried one and it worked.

This is one of our favorites.

Ingredients:

1 pound of hamburger
6 medium potatoes
1 15 oz can green beans
1 15 oz can corn
1 15 oz can peas
1 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup
1 10.5 oz can cream of celery soup
1/2 cup water
1 oz shredded cheddar cheese

Directions:

Brown and drain the hamburger and set aside.
Peel and slice the potatoes and place them in the bottom of the crockpot. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Place the drained hamburger on top of the potatoes. Layer the vegetables on top of the hamburger. Mix the two cans of soup with the water. Pour the soup mixture over the vegetables. Sprinkle the cheese on top, cover and cook. This can be cooked on LOW for 8 to 10 hours or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.

You can substitute other meats, such as round steak cubed, or cut up chicken. Other vegetables can also be substituted. Make this to your own taste. It is easy and very tasty. Enjoy!

Creative Ways to use Phyllo Dough

Do you want to make flaky appetizers that will wow your guests? Do you want convenience and affordability when it comes to weekday dinners or family gatherings? Phyllo dough could be a great ingredient to stock up on if you want versatility, good taste, and affordability. The following suggestions are some creative ways to use phyllo dough.

Instead of using regular bread dough, use phyllo dough for your next savory or sweet concoction. For example, if you want to roll dough around mini hotdogs or sausage links, use phyllo dough instead. Cut the phyllo dough into three-inch wide strips using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife. Then, wrap the dough around mini hotdogs. Bake these rolled treats in a 350 degree F oven for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is thoroughly cooked and golden brown.

Try making a Danish or “bear claw” with phyllo dough using some of your favorite sweet fillings, such as jam or jelly, marmalade or thick syrups. You can use pie fillings, too, because they are more substantial. Cut the phyllo dough into squares or rectangles as large as you want them to be, then spread the filling evenly leaving a one inch margin on all sides, or spread the filling only on one half of each square or rectangle. Fold over the square or rectangle and crimp the edges using a fork. If you leave a one inch margin on all sides, fold the sides and then fold the rectangle over on itself one or two times. You will get a layer of filling, a layer of dough, a layer of filling, and so on. Again, bake until the “bear claws” are golden brown.

Another way to use phyllo dough is as a substitute for hamburger buns. If you are hosting a dinner party, phyllo dough can jazz up homey recipes. For instance, cut the phyllo dough into circles using a round cookie cutter or the edge of a drinking glass. Bake the circles until they are golden brown and flaky. Then, use the circles in place of buns. Miniature peanut butter and jelly sandwiches using phyllo dough “buns” would be an interesting idea, or use cured meat and cheese for mini ham and cheese sandwiches.

It’s a good thing that phyllo dough is becoming easier to find, because this versatile ingredient allows home cooks to create dishes that are easy on the wallet but great on taste.

What’s not to Love about a Cinnamon Cookie

One of the most universally loved cookies in the world is the snickerdoodle. It is also delicious and very easy to make which may be part of the reason it is so well loved. I take part in a Christmas cookie swap every year and when you have to bake twenty dozen cookies this is one recipe that will not leave you wishing that the holidays were over. Don;t worry , this recipe isn’t for twenty dozen, it is for 3-4 dozen depending on how big you make the cookies.

You will need:

2 sticks of butter or 1 stick of butter and 1 stick of margarine brought to room temperature.

1 1/2 cups white sugar.

2 eggs

2 1/4 cups all purpose flour

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

To roll the cookies in:

2 tablespoons white sugar

3 teaspoons cinnamon

Place the butter and sugar in a large bowl and blend with your electric mixer. Add the eggs one at a time alternating with the dry ingredients. Beat until well blended. Cover and refrigerate for two hours.

Mix the 2 tablespoons white sugar and 3 teaspoons of cinnamon and place in a small bowl.

When the batter has cooled turn the oven on to 400 degrees. Roll the batter into small balls and dip in the sugar and cinnamon mixture and place on a cookie sheet or stone. Bake in oven for eight to ten minutes. If you want crisp cookies let them cool on the sheet, if you want softer cookies move the cookies to a cooling rack.

This recipe makes 3-4 dozen cookies. This recipe doubles or triples easily. I never vary it because it is perfect the way that it is. Why mess with perfection? You could however use colored sugar to roll the cookies in for a festive touch. This is a great recipe to let the children help with. They really love rolling the balls of dough in the sugar.

If you want to make up gift bags to give away just double or triple the recipe.

Tips for Peeling and Slicing Fresh Pumpkins

Sometimes, pumpkin in a can just won’t do a recipe justice. Fortunately, you do not need a lot of time in order to prepare fresh pumpkins. To bring the delightful taste of real pumpkins to your table, here are a few tips for peeling and slicing this delicious type of squash.

Pumpkins, like many squashes and gourds, come in a variety of shapes, sizes, textures, and flavors. Some of the squashes that have warts or striations on their surface may look intimidating. However, no matter what your pumpkin looks like on the outside, the technique of peeling and slicing them is the same.

First, you will need a sharp chef’s knife. Using a longer and larger knife will allow you to peel the skin easily. You will not be able to use any kind of peeler for this job because pumpkins usually have thick skin. Do use a large knife, but you do not have to use a butcher’s knife. Additionally, if your knife is sharp, you won’t lose too much of the meat. Make a base so that your pumpkin can “sit” on your work surface. You can even put a lint-free kitchen towel down onto the surface so that your pumpkin doesn’t move too much while you peel it. To make a “base,” you simply lay the pumpkin on its side and cut off the bottom. At this point, you can also cut off the top, too.

Now, the pumpkin should be steady and stable enough for you to start peeling. Again, using a chef’s knife, begin peeling off about 1″ or 2″ wide strips. Start from the top and slowly work down to the bottom. You do not need to cut very far down; just peel the outer layer enough to preserve as much of the meat inside.

Once your pumpkin is peeled, it’s time to remove the seeds and slice it. Cut the pumpkin in half. Use a large metal spoon to scoop out the seeds and the fibers that are entangled in the center of the squash. You can now either save the seeds for next year or throw them away. When all of the insides have been scooped out, it will be very easy for you to slice the pumpkin halves lengthwise, and then dice them into 1″ or 2″ inch cubes.

When your pumpkin is diced into the desired shape and size, it’s ready to cook for pie, soup, or any recipe that calls for pumpkin.

Creative Recipes using Stinging Nettle

Here are some traditional recipes using nettles from Kent in the south east of England.

Nettle Beer

Nettles and other plants were once used to flavour beers of different kinds. Apparently, it is still possible to buy nettle beer in the north of England.

Juice and thinly pared rind of two lemons
2lb young nettle tops, washed and drained
1 gallon water
1lb Demerara sugar
1oz cream of tartar
oz yeast

Bring the water to the boil in a preserving pan and add the nettles. Simmer for 15 minutes. Add the lemon rind, lemon juice and sugar, and leave to cool. Stir in the yeast. Allow to stand for three days before straining into a demi-john. This will be ready to drink in a week.

Norton Nettle Soup

Nettles have been eaten for many centuries, and can still be used in place of spinach in many recipes. They are a rich source of calcium, magnesium and iron, and of course, lose their sting when cooked.

6oz nettles
2oz celery
2oz cabbage
2oz bacon
pint stock

Fry the bacon and celery together until tender. Add the cabbage fry for two minutes. Pour in the stock, pile in the nettles and simmer for another four minutes. Garnish with crme fresh to serve.

Wayfarers Soup

The place name Nettlestead means a place where nettles grow’, so it is not too far-fetched to imagine the inhabitants making this soup in the spring.

4 pints nettle tops
1 onions, chopped
1 carrot, peeled and chopped
2 celery sticks, chopped
1 large clove of garlic, crushed
2 pints home-made chicken or vegetable stock
2 tablespoons crme fraiche
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Celery leaves to garnish

Using a large pan, cook the onion gently for five minutes, and then add the carrot, celery and garlic. Continue to fry until soft. Meanwhile, wash the nettle tops thoroughly. Add the stock and the nettles to the pan and bring them to the boil. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, until the nettles are tender, then season with salt and pepper. Puree the soup in a liquidiser and return it to a clean pan. Stir in the crme fraiche and reheat gently. Garnish with celery leaves.
